Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He saved four early break points in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
